Why are we so quick to put on a mask?

Where two or three Christians are gathered together, there you have a bunch of Pharisees. Why are we so quick to put on a mask? We pretend to be sorted. We hide our weaknesses and boast of strengths we don’t have. But a church family should not be like people waiting for a job interview, all presenting our best faces and ready to sell ourselves. We are like people in a doctor’s waiting room, knowing we need help and willing to admit it to each other.

Why are we so quick to put on a mask?
We want to move from pretending to messiness.

We want to move from pretending to messiness.

We want to be a real community of people who are increasingly quick to carry each other’s burdens, even if it costs us. We want to be like Christ to one another; willingly dying to our own needs and counting others more significant than ourselves (Phil 2.3). We want to demonstrate costly love to one another.

As a fellowship, we value hospitality enormously.

It takes time to get to know other people that well, and to know how best to help them see more of Jesus. Our homes are central to who we are and how we share our lives with one another in the unglamorousness of ordinary days. And the warmth of that real community in Christ must spill outwards. We want to be open and welcoming so that gatherings always also include not-yet believers and first-time visitors.

As a fellowship, we value hospitality enormously.
