We know some of our neighbours, and nod periodically to others. We might spend much of the day with colleagues at work, have a coffee on the Perth Road with a friend, or eat tea with family members. These are all places and networks and communities where God has already rooted us. These are all communities where we can live and speak for Jesus with people who don’t yet know him.
This is where we live out the gospel. This is where we’re to be salt and light in what we do 24/7, not merely when we switch into ‘church-mode’. So as Grace Church, we will be people-focused and not programme-driven. Our goal will always be grow our members so that we each become more like Jesus, and so that we take the aroma of Christ into every corner of our lives. It is in the context of these relationships that the reality of the gospel will be seen and experienced… or, tellingly, where it is not evident.
So our first priority must be to ‘go’ and be Christ-like where we already have the deepest relationships. But that isn’t all. Because we worship as ‘church-gathered’ in Showcase the Street, we want to reach that community with the transforming news of Jesus Christ.
